Congress Costs $5.67M/Day to Operate. Should they not be held accountable for the cost of their time?

Rep. Corrine Brown on the floor of the House

The Legislative Branch Appropriations Bill in 2008 for daily operational cost, including salaries of staff and personnel, allocated $869.3M/year for the Senate and and $1.2B/year for the House of Representatives ( a 14% increase).

Assuming they work 7 days a week, 52 weeks per year, that is $2.38M/day for the Senate, and $3.29M/day for the House..........is this worth it ?

On the House floor, while adorned in her orange and purple silk bathrobe, Rep. Corrine Brown's "Go Gators" speech "gratulating" the Florida Gators on their NCAA victory (youtube search for it, you will not be disappointed) cost the US tax payer $34,300.

Remember the outrage at AIG executives our congressmen carried on about for 5 days? It was over the US taxpayer's money being used to pay $160M in bonuses to the AIG traders. House Operational costs during those days cost the taxpayer $16.45M....... for them to talk ......and be "outraged".......

How much did the baseball/steroid hearings cost us?

The numbers are not exact, and other activities are taking place while the hearings are conducted but the point is the same.....should the American people not demand more for their money?

Shouldn't we look at the cost of debating issues before the Congress takes them on?

It seems that tabloid journalists are setting the Congressional agenda.....

Ahh!, thanks for the reminder.

Now, how do I get the IRS to understand the payment will be made by my congressional respresentatives, when they are in charge of the IRS regulation?

I realize they are busy with multiple things going on in a day but it always floors me that I have better attendance to some committees (CSPAN) than they do. Granted I'm not there, only watching it, but does anyone think they go back and watch it after work?

I am afraid that would be to embarassing for them...... or worse yet....they might not catch how incompetent they come across. But heh, maybe they are representing their constituancy.

that's a lot of money to pay some pencil necks who gain pleasure from hearing themselves speak!!!... as with anything else they're entrenched in the system and know that any legislation brought forth to reduce and/or limit their powers won't make it to the floor!!... so we're left with having to put up with and listen to these "lifers" who won't relinquish their sense of power and entitlement in our lifetimes!!
