What is your favorite Obama quote?

Hands down, even his greatest critics have to admit that Obama is one of the best public speakers to hold the office of the president. In a dynamic speech last week in an open forum at a community college in Allentown Pennsylvania, Obama told the populist crowds the following:

"Companies in the United States have figured out that they can produce the same amount of product with far fewer people"........ " We are going to do something about that!!!!"

Did our Union oriented President listen to what he just said? He just admitted that he plans to force companies to hire unneeded employees......that should help us be more competitive...... What is your favorite quote?

"Nelson and Lieberman are traitorous douchebags!"

Okay, he didn't say it publicly, but you know he said it.

Favorite obama quote..hmm...let's see, there are so many:

"I will stand with the Muslims should the political winds shift in an ugly direction."

Call to Islamic prayer is "one of the prettiest sounds on Earth at sunset."

"My friends, we live in the greatest nation in the history of the world. I hope you'll join me as we try to change it."

"I found solace in nursing a pervasive sense of grievance and animosity against my mother's race."

"To avoid being mistaken for a sellout, I chose my friends carefully. The more politically active black students. The foreign students. The Chicanos. The Marxist professors and structural feminists."

"I learned to slip back and forth between my black and white worlds. One of those tricks I had learned: People were satisfied so long as you were courteous and smiled and made no sudden moves. They were more than satisfied; they were relieved -- such a pleasant surprise to find a well-mannered young black man who didn't seem angry all the time."

"I had learned not to care. I blew a few smoke rings, remembering those years. Pot had helped, and booze; maybe a little blow when you could afford it. Not smack, though. ..."

"...I've got two daughters. 9 years old and 6 years old. I am going to teach them first of all about values and morals. But if they make a mistake, I don't want them punished with a baby."

"I can no more disown (Jeremiah Wright) than I can disown the black community."

"The point I was making was not that Grandmother harbors any racial animosity. She doesn't. But she is a typical white person..."

"That's just how white folks will do you."

"You go into some of these small towns in Pennsylvania, and like a lot of small towns in the Midwest, the jobs have been gone now for 25 years and nothing's replaced them. And they fell through the Clinton administration, and the Bush administration, and each successive administration has said that somehow these communities are gonna regenerate and they have not. And it's not surprising then they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren't like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations."

"We need somebody who's got the heart, the empathy, to recognize what it's like to be a young teenage mom, the empathy to understand what it's like to be poor or African-American or gay or disabled or old - and that's the criterion by which I'll be selecting my judges."

"By any measure, my administration has inherited a fiscal disaster," he said on March 4.

Ahh...the many references, made during his 48 month watch, for what he "inherited."

I can't quite remember the quotes, but it was something about his administration bringing back "transparency." And something about lobbyists not being in his administration.

I disagree, before we hang everyone out in the sun...... we should follow the method my grandmother used for laundry...... when something is a filthy mess, you drop it in a wash tub full of water, scrub it down with soap, and then in 2010 we can hang them all out to dry....

...and replace them with what? Republicans? Palin? Ron Paul? I guarantee you there will be many attempts to exploit your righteous rage in '10 and '12 but if you vote for the other major brand, you'll get pretty much the same thing you got now: "I'm mad at Coke! I'm voting for Pepsi!" The problem is systemic, folks. So, what do we do about it (after the obvious first move: stripping corporate entities of individual constitutional rights, I mean)?

But, the Supreme Court never ventured into the issues of redistribution of wealth, and of more basic issues such as political and economic justice in society. To that extent, as radical as I think people try to characterize the Warren Court, it wasn't that radical. It didn't break free from the essential constraints that were placed by the Founding Fathers in the Constitution, at least as it's been interpreted....

break free from the essential constraints that were placed by the Founding Fathers in the Constitution Within such a paradigm, anything is permissible, including the complete destruction of American economic strength as part of an abstract notion of redistributive justice.

I really like this quote. It shows that he really understands the reasons why some people do the things that they do. This is an explanation of why some people might cling to guns, or religion, or antipathy.... It is not condemning them for doing so, as some would have you believe. It is not providing the value judgement on doing these things. It is a recognition of the realities of life and the steps that some people take to make sense of them.

Sorry...... Obama is trying to come up with some reason why someone would not like his programs, or even more amazing to Obama......having the audacity to not like HIM personally........

you know those silly little people that cling to guns or religion........ sorry the guy is an out of touch elitist.

If that is what you take away from that statement, you are ignoring the background, and looking for something to chastise him about. We all see what we want to see, to a certain extent. When you chose the quote, you truncated the first part, leaving the latter. The problem is, the first part of the statement sets the context for the latter part, and as such, the two cannot be seperated if the meaning of the whole is to be kept intact.

He is not finding reasons that people won't or don't like his programs, he is saying that previous administrations had promised and failed to deliver on job creation or retention programs. (Whether or not they actually had the ability to achieve said aims is a seperate issue.) They failed to deliver jobs, it can be and was construed that the government was complicit either through action (think NAFTA, WTO, Most favored nation trade status) or inaction (Think illegal aliens and out-sourcing). So a large portion of the populace, the lower middle and middle class who had good jobs that payed a living wage are finding it harder and harder to make ends meet. These situations can breed in these people a sense of discontent with goverment and corporations alike.

Some people in these situations are predisposed to look to religion for solace, or lacking that, fall back apon themselves. This is not a bad thing. It becomes worrying, though, when these tendancies are manipulated and amplified by any person with an agenda. It becomes distressing when people start to point to a group and scapegoat them.

That is what I take away from that statement. But it took more than five seconds to convey that idea, and in a world where infotainment trumps actual news, sound -bites trump actual exploration of ideas, and thousands of people are willing to take anything said and color it to their view, regardless of what the person was trying to convey, it would behoove us to have a more nuanced ear.

Could I be wrong? Yes I could be. Am I wrong? I don't think so.

    Peace.

    B.S.
